Waar het hart vol van is, stroomt de mond van over

Okay, this one is somewhat new and is starting to annoy me:

I have a laptop, and also a wireless router, which you put the little wireless card do-dad in the computer for the connection. Well, the past few days I'm having a hard time keeping connected to MY wireless router, and it diverts me to the neighbors network, back and forth from mine to theirs, and constantly goes offline. My wireless card is cracked, I'm thinking this could be why it's having such a hard time keeping connected, and repairing it doesn't help. So, i go to install the other wireless card from my old laptop (same exact kind), but the disc is not reading on this laptop as it says "disc is corrupt." SO, should i just say to heck with it, buy a new wireless set-up card and disc, and start from scratch ?

the goblin wanted to know more before he offered help, for example the name written on the PCMCIA wifi card, the router name too, the system d1me9 is using, also he would like to know if the same thing happened if d1me9 took the laptop elsewhere to another network for example, and if the same thing was happening to any other computers picking up that signal

Okay, here goes: (hope this is what you need)

Wireless Card is LinkSys Instant Wireless Network (compatible to my computer)
Router itself is D-Link ?
I have Windows XP Professional on the laptop
Cable DSL is the modem
never take out of the house
any other laptops brought into the house have NO connection problems like this.

My main network 'A' is the one for my house (my router). It says it is connected, but at the same time, says it is not connected. (but i can still get online, as a matter of fact it is saying no connection right now)

Network 'B', is my neighbor's router, sometimes the wireless card seems to bypass my router and go right to that one. Back and forth, and my connection knocks me offline. I don't get it, no one else in the house has this problem with a laptop.

Should I just bite the bullet, and get a new wireless card ?
I'm wondering if it's because the wireless card itself is cracked. I never had this problem before it did. Since then, I have had this issue, and it's getting worse. Could it be shorting out ?

"...OK, when you right hand clink the network icon on the taskbar, it shows a word like display network connections, can you see if you can remove to wrong network , which means you will have to know which network you want and which one you don't here, hopefully with that it will stop jumping onto the wrong network as you say, lastly since networking is not my strong point, I would either wait for remember911 or docputer here or try your luck on Geekstogo or bleeping computers but don't mention my name please..." said the goblin

The Update !!!

Okay, went to get another card and almost passed out at the price. Said what the heck, i have a perfectly good card from the old laptop. If the disc won't read, there is a download site can be used. Well, put the disc in again, it worked, and now the other wireless card is installed, and YAY !! It works wonderfully !!!

The IT guy told me that it was definitely the card that was cracked. He also said get rid of it before it damages the port.

So..the story, like the muteness story, has a happy ending Smiley

My only wonder was...Why would the cracked card pick up the neighbor's wireless system and not pick up your own?

If the card was defective (and of course it was, being cracked)...It should have worked exactly the same on both systems, either working or not working, picking up the wireless....

Naturally the right thing was done, replacing a cracked card for a new one.

Glad your system is back up and working...

Anyhoo, was just glad i replaced it, and sailing strong now, connection wise.

"...signals and signals strenghs differ between makes..." imagined the goblin "...and once one had reinstalled the pilot without luck, turn off and then returned on the router without luck too, etc, it becomes time to do what you did..." said the goblin but he repeated that networking was one of his weaker sides

the goblin was being a realist, it, like the last post, always moved on and changed, "...in fact, part of making money out of everyone was to improve things..." said the goblin knowing that half of what they offer is never used while the other half is never understood fully
