I am a retired Master Sergeant with 23 years of service, so I was stationed just about everywhere.  The fact that I was with the 75th Ranger Regiment for 17 years means I was in a lot of places where people really didn't want me....(Iraq, Panama, Somalia, etc.....).

It was great and I wouldn't trade it for anything (including the couple of times I managed to get in the way of bullets and shrapnel....).

I know I haven't been around much....just too much going on these days....I'll try to explain in another post if I can manage the time.....

Be Well Friends.....

I was an E-4 in the U.S. Air Force.  I was stationed at Mather AFB, CA, Kadena AB, Okinawa, Japan, Lackland AFB, TX, and Patrick's AFB, FL.

Patrick's AFB was very sentimental to me because that's where my uncle (on mom's side) retired from the Air Force.  He brought us there every time we traveled to FL as a child.  He made sure he brought me there again right before I went into the Air Force.  He was disappointed that none of his children followed in his footsteps by going into the Air Force.  He was one of my heroes growing up so I decided to follow in his footsteps.  Him & my aunt flew to IL (where I'm from) and drove to TX with my parents to see me graduate from Basic Training.  I was in heaven because I wasn't expecting him to be there since he was very sick.  I had to stay in TX for my specialty training (Law Enforcement) after my family left.  A week later, I received a call from my aunt telling my my uncle had died a few days after they arrived back home.  She told me his last words were, "My proudest moment used to be when I was in the Air Force...it is now the day my niece graduated from Air Force Basic Training."  I still get tears in my eyes when I think about that.  Those words will stay with me for the rest of my life.  A few years later, fate brought me to Patrick's Air Force Base where I walked the halls/streets that my uncle once walked.

Jungle Fever, Thank you for sharing your story with us. Were you LE or SP? I had friends when I was in that were LEs and SPs. Always tried having friends that were cops, supply, and cooks when I was in the military.

My brother in law became an SP when he was in but got stuck in Minot, ND. I still remember a saying; Why not Minot? Freezin is the reason. I remember joking with him, asking how many rivets are on those B52s. I remember he was getting his first assignment about the time I was being stationed at Eglin AFB, FL.

I was the black sheep in my family, I went in the Air Force from a family of Marines. Although I think I would of been lynched if Id of joined the Navy. I still tease them once in a while and call them sailors. They don't find it quite as funny.

I was LE and my hubby was SP.  LOL  When I was reading what you said about Minot, the first thing I thought of was "Why not Minot".  Minot seems to be their favorite place to send the SP's. LOL
