I have had times where my computer seems to mute itself,
anytime it seems to take a notion to...& I don't even HAVE a
laptop, but a custom-built morphodite  PC contraption from
Simplified Computers.
Yup, even when I'm right in the middle of something, all of a
sudden the sound goes out, & I never know when it will
come back, until it does.   Sometimes it stays silent for days on end
after the sound quits, & then it comes back on again.

I think maybe it's one of those quirky things where....maybe
computers got a bit of a mind of their own.   lol

have a look at the left front corner of the laptop, some models have a sound adjustment wheel button on the side of the laptop

fleamailman, you are a genius...i checked the front of the laptop, and sure enough, there on the right side was the little volume dial you spoke of. Consider the muteness cured ! Thank you, i never wouldve noticed that little dial otherwise Smiley

"...thanks  again..." said the goblin remembering the times where someones WIFI isn't working because they hadn't noticed that they have flipped the little switch on the front of the laptop, oh, this and another is where the laptop goes dead and won't boot, one goes nuts over it when all one just has to take out the battery, connect the mains plug to the wall and switch on and all will start up normally(then one turns off the laptop puts in the battery and switches on again) but if one doesn't know....

this is very true, goblin, there can be much more to learn about laptops, this is my second, my first one had a surge through the a/c adapter and got fried, hoping this one lasts much longer

now if only I could figure out why my PC still has its
'Mute Moments' whenever it cares to. banghead.gif
& NO it has nothing to do with the button on the side of
my flat monitor, which controls the sound...I already checked that.

"...the fact that it is not constant rules out something final like missing drivers, I would tend to think that it is more likely to be system conflict or lose sound card, anyway one of the reasons why I keep a linux live CD handy is that with it one can tell is this problem is hardware or software based, btw how are you listening to the sound, speakers or headphones or both..." said the gobin curious as ever

The flat screen monitor has a couple little speakers
built right within its frame. [It is a KDS Radius model]

I think I will just let it go on the way it has.
This deal where the sound stops & starts at its own
whim doesn't really bother me, hardly.  So I will
just go with the flow & let this silly contraption go
on doing what it wants.
