"...hi..." said the goblin(computer repairman) who wondered if he was the only  penguin(linux user) and if he wasn't who else was here and who used which distro and why, "...I am mostly on Kubuntu, but use knoppix and puppy too amongst others..."

that goblin felt better, and in return offered to help bubbles if she ever wanted to try linux kubuntu linux out, and if she did she was not to try it by herself but to go slowly and with help from friends, the reward would be a system without malware, safe Internet and the ability to see microsoft windows for the leaseware it is thus avoiding it "...anyway, no rush, perhaps when you don't want to upgrade anymore..."

Hey FleaMailMan! I am using my daughter's computer while I do the Nanny thing. So, I cannot make a decision while I am here. I have an HP Computer and an HP combo printer, fax, scanner, copier. I have the capability to network. I have Windows XP as the operating system, and had an option to upgrade to Vista, but missed the boat on the offer expiration. Which I now am thankful of, cause I've heard that would be a major faux paux. The original Internet browser was IE and I experienced being kicked out of links for no reason, freeze ups and some other nusisance issues. I downloaded Mozilla Firefox and my problems stopped. I am interested in the linux kubuntu, but currently my home does not have Internet connection. That will not be forever, just temporary as are all things in life. Sometime in the future I will ask for your guidance.

the goblin, happy with what bubbles had written, knew that there was no rush, only an understanding that microsoft would try to force her onto vista one way or another, and onto vienna after that, that was after all how the market had to dump thousands of perfectly good computers just because they were windows98se and wouldn't work well with XP, and how it would happen to those computers which couldn't take vista, but the goblin used a compaq persario 1200 laptop(6gb, 256ram and ex windows98se) yet he had office, excel, save in pdf, mp3, streams, firefox, and much more, and because he had no protection having no malware too, but he know bubbles should no jump into this "...just keep an eye on linux, it will make interesting reading..."

"...OK, now I understand, it might run slow being an upgrade but if it is only to learn about XP then go for it, eitherway "me" and windows98 are now unsupported by Microsoft so there isn't much choice but don't pay too much for XP licence, the yearly protection and officeworks, if the bill is big talk to him about linux instead, if uncle Sam is paying then go for XP, also it depends on the model but another bar of ram might make the computer run faster, but buying new bits for old computers can often be throwing good money after bad because once that computer dies then that ram type won't work on newer models, the question here is "is it worth it" then..." advised the goblin
